Do you ever feel as if time is running out?
I don't mean in that "there's not enough hours in the day" way. I'm thinking bigger than that. You know, things like the big life things you want to accomplish. A big life project you haven't started yet, haven't finished yet, or, haven't even thought of yet? Maybe it's winter coming, or a reaction to a surprise family health issue in our midst, or, maybe it's just getting older. I've been feeling a little anxious about time passing by too fast lately. But, a conversation this week with a dying woman has given me a whole other perspective. This feeling of "time running out" is really not a bad thing. If you can accept and embrace it, all it really means is that something is about to change. And, all we can do is prepare for that change as best we can, without knowing how it's going to turn out. Time passing isn't about an end to be feared, it's about something different coming. It's just the sound of one door closing, and another opening. And, that's something to be celebrated. Sometimes it's not all about the money.
In real estate, we talk a lot about money. Rising prices, competing offers, and striving to outbid the competition to win the deal, have been the hot topics, especially lately. In life, we talk a lot about time, also especially lately. And, sometimes that's the most important thing. I was involved in a sale last night where that was the case on both sides. The Sellers had major health issues, and had already moved into a care home, so, were selling their now vacant property. They didn't have the means to take care of it for long, so, a quick closing was THE most important thing to them. One of the potential Buyers needed to sell their own home to secure financing, so, felt they needed some extra time to do that. In the end, the Sellers accepted an offer from a different Buyer, for significantly less money, because those Buyer's could close quickly. In spite of this being the first Buyer's dream property, they lost the opportunity. In this market, Sellers have choices, so, Buyers need to be prepared to meet ALL the Sellers requirements in order to secure the property. Opportunities don't come along every day, so, preparation is key. And, sometimes, time IS money. In life, and in real estate. |
