I'm sitting at my favourite perch at the Lake this morning, reflecting on how lucky we are to have this place in the world.
Due to Covid, we have not been able to get here until now. It's strange that we are doing the winter clean up in the heat of July. And, there's much to be done.
Once again, the turkeys have perched above the deck and shat all over everything. The ice took out part of our chimney, leaving a nice hole for water to leak through to the living room. There's the usual pile of sticks and branches scattered everywhere, the chairs need refinishing. Everything needs cleaning. And, we're in the midst of a serious heat wave, making all these chores a serious challenge.
But, as I sit here now with my first cup of tea, on this nice cool(er) morning, I'm listening to a loon call, and the dew dropping from the trees. A new (to us) bird has built a nest on our porch light to raise babies. We've had a chance to reconnect with a few friends, and disconnect from the rest of the world for a couple of days. It's wonderful!
And, it's Celebrate Canada week! Different, but, perfect in it's own way.
